Ever gone through the entire
Google Play Store or the Apple App Store? You can’t, because there are
over 900,000 applications on each of these stores. It is next to
impossible to go through every one of them. But then, what do you do if
you’re an app developer? How do you get your app noticed amongst so many
competitors? Add to that the fact that every other app is already on
the market, while yours is in the development stage, the number is only
going to grow when you actually launch your app.
In a guest post on VentureBeat, Jeremy Greenfield explains how he and his partner worked on promoting their app. According to Greenfield, he and his partner drove about 2,000 miles for six weeks in order to talk about their app in various universities and colleges. Greenfield says that they went over various student unions and even guest-lectured an MBA-level class at the University of Alabama. At the end of their endeavour, they had improved their user base by about 40 per cent, says Greenfield in the article.
Greenfield and his partner did this with less man power. More man power could definitely get your better results. But, what is even more important is the product pitch. You have to sell your idea to your audience, because always remember, your idea may already have been done. You have to tell them why your app is different.
Further, what Greenfield says is that you have to believe in your own product and forget that you’re new. You have to pitch at the highest of places as if they need to know about your application. Greenfield landed an hour long discussion with Shaqueille O’ Neil, you can do it too. All he had to do was find the man making the decisions for Shaq. Pitch it to the people who manage or ‘keep’ them and you will have big meetings.
